Lagoa
What's on in Lagoa: concerts at Auditório Carlos do Carmo, exhibitions at the Convento de São José cultural centre, and the ten days of FATACIL — the largest fair in southern Portugal — across Carvoeiro, Ferragudo, Estômbar and Porches. Seasonal highlights include FATACIL from 21 to 30 August 2026 (45th edition), with headliners Tony Carreira, Plutónio, Quim Barreiros, Richie Campbell and Os Quatro e Meia, plus boat trips to the Benagil sea cave throughout the summer. Updated daily with what's happening today, this weekend and in the weeks ahead.
Auditório Carlos do Carmo
The town's main concert hall, with 298 seats (3 for reduced mobility), individual dressing rooms and a translation booth. Music, dance, theatre, conferences and temporary exhibitions. Central location in Lagoa.
Centro Cultural Convento de São José
Former Carmelite convent converted into a cultural centre — auditorium with 83 seats and several side rooms. The chapel is now used by the Anglican Church and hosts music, dance and poetry performances throughout the year.
Parque de Feiras e Exposições (FATACIL grounds)
Site of FATACIL — a 10-day fair in late August with themed pavilions, a main stage, food, crafts and the largest trade-fair gathering in southern Portugal since the late 1980s. 45th edition in 2026.
Carvoeiro and the Algar Seco Boardwalk
Fishing village raised to vila in 2001, with an urban beach right by the main square. To the east, a ~600 m wooden boardwalk runs from the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Encarnação to Algar Seco — rock formations carved by erosion and the famous Boneca cave, with two 'eyes' looking out to sea.
Praia da Marinha + Seven Hanging Valleys Trail
Marinha has been ranked among the world's most beautiful beaches. Classic start of the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail: 6 km of Atlantic-carved cliff coast all the way to Praia de Vale Centeanes, past sea-stacks, vertical drops and a top-down view of the Benagil sea cave. Voted Europe's best hiking trail.
Praia and Benagil Sea Cave
Scenic headland at the eastern edge of the council, with a sheltered beach and the famous sea cave whose roof skylight lights up the inner sand around midday. Reached only by boat (from Benagil, Marina de Lagoa, Armação de Pêra, Albufeira, Portimão), kayak or SUP — swimming has been banned since July 2025.
Ferragudo and Forte de São João do Arade
Whitewashed 16th-century fishing village on the west bank of the Arade estuary, opposite Portimão. The Forte de São João do Arade (15th–20th c., now a private residence) separates Praia da Angrinha from Praia Grande. Praia do Pintadinho, with a cave at its northern end, is the local pick.
Porches Olaria
Eastern village in the council, known for its ceramics tradition. Olaria Algarve (Porches Pottery), founded in 1968 by Irish artist Patrick Swift and Portuguese painter Lima de Freitas, is the best known — hand-painted tiles, kitchen ceramics and artistic pieces drawing on local motifs.
