The second highest point of the Monchique mountains, at 774 meters, the Picota viewpoint offers a grand panoramic view over the Algarve and the mountains. Less visited than Foia, it is surrounded by dense forests of cork oaks and strawberry trees, making the path to the top a total immersion in mountain nature. The solitude and the breadth of the view are the great reward.

Local tips

It is an excellent destination for those seeking solitude and mountain nature. In autumn, the strawberry trees bear red fruits. Avoid days of thick fog. Bring warm clothing, as the temperature can be considerably lower than on the coast.

Sítio das Fontes

Riverside municipal park with 18 hectares on the left bank of the Arade River estuary, north of Estombar. The park is fed by natural freshwater springs that emerge from the ground, creating a unique ecosystem. Walking trails, picnic areas with barbecues, and a river beach complete the experience. The flat terrain makes it fully accessible, and the complete circuit takes about 45 minutes on foot. An Algarve without ocean beaches, but with all the freshness.
