Intercultural Week of Portimão

From May 26 to 31, Portimão will once again energize the Intercultural Week, an initiative that celebrates cultural diversity and promotes coexistence, sharing of experiences, and dialogue among the various migrant communities residing in the municipality.

Under the theme Portimão, diversity that unites - the program includes proposals in the areas of music, dance, gastronomy, awareness, and reflection, reinforcing the values of inclusion, tolerance, and solidarity that characterize the municipality.

26 MAY | 1:00 PM PRESENTATION OF THE INTERCULTURAL WEEK AND CELEBRATION OF WORLD AFRICA DAY Location: Community Center of Bairro Cruz da Parteira

Lunch gathering with African cuisine prepared by residents of African nationality and musical entertainment with Beto Kalulu.

Activity aimed at the users of the Cruz da Parteira Community Center.

MAY 27 | 1:00 PM WORKSHOP "CULTURE OF FLAVORS" AND DANCE Location: Quinta Pedagógica de Portimão

Activity aimed at users of the Social Centers and Community Centers, organized by the group Mulheres do Brasil – Núcleo do Algarve, featuring the preparation of traditional Brazilian recipes and musical entertainment.

28 MAY AWARENESS SESSIONS "PORTIMÃO, DIVERSITY THAT UNITES US" Location: Agrupamento de Escolas Manuel Teixeira Gomes

Sessions aimed at children, youth, and adults on diversity, equality, combating racial discrimination, and migrant integration.

29 MAY | 10AM - 5PM MEETING "PORTIMÃO, THE DIVERSITY THAT UNITES US" Location: Lugar do Rio – Espaço Jovem Portimão

Meeting dedicated to good practices of welcome and integration, bringing together associations, schools, technicians, intercultural mediators, and partner entities, promoting the sharing of experiences, challenges, and integration strategies.

The initiative also includes, in the afternoon, the presentation of the book "I Came from Afar" by André Pereira, a work that gathers testimonies from migrants residing in Portimão, sharing stories of life, integration, and belonging.

Activity promoted by the association A Capela, aimed at its members, inviting the discovery of flavors and gastronomic traditions from different cultures, through the preparation of "Cookies from other corners of the world".

MAY 31 | 3:00 PM SHOW "MEETING OF CULTURES" Location: Auditorium of the Portimão Museum

A show of music, dance, and culture from various corners of the world, featuring performances by the "Mixdance" Studio of C.A.P.E.L.A, African chants, traditional dances, capoeira, cante alentejano, batuques, and a multicultural entrepreneurship fair, in a moment of celebration of interculturality.
