Sustainability, culture, sports, and tradition will be the focus during the Municipality Week of Loulé, which will take place from May 10 to 17, culminating on the Municipality Day, May 14. This year there are many reasons to celebrate as the program coincides with Climate Week and the anniversary of the city of Quarteira.

The celebrations kick off on Sunday, May 10, with family activities under the program "Bora lá… Brincar", and theater, featuring the play "What if it were you?", a coproduction of Cineteatro Loulé and the group Que cena!/Associação Os Barões.

Sport and environmental education mark the following days, with initiatives such as "The School Goes to the Garden", "Plogging – Walk for the Climate", and the delivery of Balance Bikes to kindergartens, reinforcing the Municipality's commitment to gentle mobility from childhood.

In the cultural component, at the end of the afternoon on the 12th, there will be a lecture titled "Archaeology in the Historic Center of Loulé," to be held at the Alcaidaria of the Castle. Alexandra Pires will discuss the redevelopment works in the Historic Zone and the Municipality's attentive approach to archaeological issues during this process, addressing the public's questions about "what is beneath our feet" when we walk in this part of the city.

Wednesday, May 13, is dedicated to the city of Quarteira, which celebrates its 27th anniversary with the raising of the Flag, the inauguration of a new football field at Passeio das Dunas, and the first Dog Park in the city and municipality.

A visit to some investments being made in the city is also planned, such as the construction of the Kindergarten at Forte Novo.

The day culminates with the presentation of the book “Cicatrizes” by Quarteira musician Dino d’Santiago, an emotional self-portrait of one of the most recognized Portuguese artists today.

In Loulé, the Municipality promotes the ceremony recognizing municipal employees with 25 and 35 years of public service. During the morning, Loulé students participate in the conference "Youth for Climate".

The municipal holiday begins with the traditional raising of the Flag, followed by the Solemn Session at the Convent of the Holy Spirit. The day also features one of the highlights of the cultural agenda: the awarding of the prestigious Grande Prémio de Crónica e Dispersos Literários APE/Câmara Municipal de Loulé, which this year honors the work A justa desproporção, by Daniel Jonas.

In the afternoon, attention turns to Salir, with the emblematic parade of the Festa da Espiga, an ethnographic showcase of the agricultural activity of this parish. The Festival lasts for three days and will include plenty of gastronomy, handicrafts, and music, featuring a concert, among others, by one of the trending bands, os Vizinhos.

On the morning of May 15, at the Advanced Civil Protection Unit in Vale Maria Dias, first intervention equipment for fires will be delivered to the parish councils of the interior – Ameixial, Salir, Alte, Benafim, Tôr, and Querença – an action already considering the upcoming rural fire season.

The closing weekend (May 16 and 17) brings to Loulé the Social Fair, with the participation of social solidarity institutions, and the Exchange Market. There are also shows for babies in Almancil and the opera about (refugee) bodies "18 Month", by the Quarteto Contratempus, at the Cineteatro Louletano.

The celebrations conclude on Sunday with the delivery of the Algarve Architecture Award and sports activities at the Municipal Pools as part of the "Bora lá à Piscina".

Throughout the week, the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen Municipal Library hosts the exhibition "Climatic Tapestries of Loulé - Precipitation", highlighting Loulé's commitment to climate goals and the education of future generations.

"Under the sign of civic participation, this year's commemorative program highlights environmental sustainability, cultural decentralization, and the appreciation of local identity. This Week reinforces the spirit of community and reflects the vitality of a municipality that honors its roots while projecting a sustainable and inclusive future for all its residents," states President Telmo Pinto.
