On June 21, between 7:00 PM and 12:30 AM, the Megalithic Monuments of Alcalar will be the stage for the initiative "Prehistory by Moonlight – Summer Solstice", a free access event that celebrates the longest day of the year through a symbiosis between archaeological heritage and contemporary artistic expressions.

Visitors will enjoy a multisensory experience that highlights the knowledge and flavors of Mexilhoeira Grande. The venue will host a genuine display of handicrafts, sweets, and food products representative of the rural character of the region, complemented by a varied offer of gastronomy and beverages. Among the confirmed participants, local distilleries will stand out, with their medronho spirits, liqueurs, and regional gin, as well as the presence of craft breweries bringing back an exclusive beer, produced with ingredients believed to have been used in Prehistory itself.

Visitors will be welcomed in a relaxed late afternoon atmosphere, accompanied by a guest DJ, in a space properly equipped with rest areas and sun loungers, ideal for contemplating the sunset. The night will continue with an erudite aspect, led by the Adágio Coral Group from the Academia de Música de Portimão. The ensemble will present a choral and instrumental repertoire focused on composers of the Romantic period, in a performance that will integrate light and sound effects to enhance the aesthetic enjoyment of the monumental setting of Alcalar.

The scientific and educational aspect will play a central role, with the realization of two guided tours conducted by specialist archaeologists. These sessions will contextualize the history of Alcalar and the deep connection between astronomical cycles and the social practices of prehistoric communities. In parallel, the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos will host an open astronomical observation session, also encouraging the participation of telescope users who wish to bring their own equipment for this informal gathering under the stars.
