To commemorate the 500th anniversary of Luís de Camões, the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos and the commission for the Commemorations of the 5th Centenary of the Birth of Luís de Camões join forces in the co-production Relicário perpétuo, an opera by Luís Tinoco with a libretto by Luísa Costa Gomes and directed by Nuno Carinhas.
A king, a vizier, and the ghost of Camões in a kingdom where everything is collected, and the obsession with possession threatens to lead to ruin, in a dialogue between heritage and contemporary creation.
The premiere is scheduled for June 10, a symbolic date that simultaneously celebrates Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, before the production travels to Loulé, where it will be staged on June 13 at the Cineteatro Louletano. Between tradition and the present, Relicário perpétuo asserts itself as a gesture of continuity of a name that remains central to Portuguese cultural identity.
