LUÍS FIRMINO RETURNS TO ALGARVE
Luís Firmino is Cape Verdean and a well-known musician in Olhão. He lived here for several years, and many remember seeing him play mornas and coladeras with his cavaquinho and guitar on the streets of the city. República 14 was one of the places that welcomed him, and the Cape Verdean Nights in the association's courtyard were significant events in 2019, 2020, and 2021 that left fond memories. Later, he moved to Lisbon, where he founded the collective "Acácia Maior". Currently based in Cape Verde, Luís Firmino returns to the Algarve for a performance at República 14. Joining Luís Firmino on cavaquinho, guitar, and vocals will be Henrique Silva on bass, Marcelo on guitar, and Nirr Paris on drums.
Luís Firmino - Biographical Note The cavaquinho entered Luís Firmino's life in 2014 as a gift from his father, a simple gesture that would profoundly mark his artistic journey. Already experienced with the guitar, the transition was natural. However, it was only in 2018, during his stay in Algarve, that the instrument revealed its true potential. As a street musician in cities like Olhão and Fuseta, Luís began to explore the cavaquinho as a solo instrument, showcasing a unique ability to capture the attention of passersby and transform public spaces into moments of genuine connection. It was during this period that he experienced one of the most significant phases of his journey, defined by freedom, discovery, and a direct and authentic relationship with the audience. It is also at this time that his first original composition, “Graças,” was born, a gesture of gratitude for the path taken, for music, and for all those who stopped to listen. The cavaquinho was also central to the creation of the collective Acácia Maior, where Luís asserted his talent as a composer with works like “Amor Astral.”
