June 9 | 21:30 The Home Fairy, by João Maia (2022, 1h43 min, M14) Vera, a single mother, is forced to have two jobs to survive after the father of her children disappeared in uncertain circumstances. By day she works at a supermarket checkout and at night she works in a strip club, trying not only to raise the children but also to pay off the debts left by her ex-partner.
Guest: André Guerra dos Santos, the screenwriter of the film. Born in 1990, he is an author of scripts both in the drawer and out of it, a schemer of the best kind, and a collector of blunders. After studying acting, psychology, and directing, he surrendered to the craft of writing, enslaved by a creative force that whispers in his ear: "Make the words I tell you graphic." He lives in the Algarve by vocation and in Lisbon by obligation. In his spare time, he enjoys rewatching The Golden Girls, visiting expensive houses he will never buy, and gossiping about other people's lives that, like his own, serve as inspiration.
