The Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is the highest tribute paid by the European Union to the work done in favor of human rights. It recognizes an exceptional contribution to the defense of freedom of thought. First awarded in 1988 to Nelson Mandela and Anatoli Marchenko, it aims to promote freedom of expression, the rights of minorities, respect for international law, the deepening of democracy, and the primacy of the rule of law. This exhibition is dedicated to the women awarded with this prize and their causes.
