Opening: May 14, 2026, at 6 PM. Location: Municipal Gallery Trem – Manuel Baptista
Democratic Sun brings together a set of works that orbit around the figure of the sun as an ambivalent symbol of power, regulation, and exposure. From the Algarve context, the exhibition proposes a critical reflection on tensions between territory, identity, and political construction, where "democratic" emerges as an ambiguous concept. Among landscape, memory, and social critique, the works explore relationships between the human and the non-human, questioning dominant forms of cultural organization and proposing new possibilities for relationships and the future.
Bruno Grilo (b. 1993) primarily works with sculpture, installation, photography, and drawing, developing an artistic practice centered on an expanded sculptural language that articulates conceptual, contemporary, and socio-political dimensions. He completed his master's degree at the Birmingham School of Art (UK) and obtained his PhD in Fine Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. His work has been presented in various spaces, including the Coventry Biennial of Contemporary Art, the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, and the Municipal Gallery João Bailote.
