June 2, 2026 - July 3, 2026 Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM Free entry Interpretation Center of Vila do Bispo Share The Interpretation Center of Vila do Bispo presents to the public, from June 2 to July 3, the exhibition "Between Art and Fire", by João Maia.

The temporary exhibition "Between Art and Fire" introduces the public to a collection of works created using expanded polystyrene and matches over the past few years by this artist residing in Sagres.

Under the theme "from idea to paper, from paper to construction, and from construction to exhibition", this show includes a diverse set of pieces crafted from molded expanded polystyrene covered with burnt matchsticks. Cars, historical monuments, decorative panels, among other pieces, are presented to the public to unveil the artist's perspective on the reality and daily life surrounding him and to reveal a meticulous work of mastery and creativity that shapes dreams and his passion for art and manual creative work.

THE AUTHOR

João Maia, from Alto Alentejo to the Algarve. Born in Nisa on September 16, 1961, he moved to the Municipality of Vila do Bispo in October 1984 due to his profession, where he has lived to this day in the Village of Sagres. Divided between the sea and the countryside, he has established his roots here. Currently retired, he dedicates himself to developing and perfecting his self-taught passion for the art of working and creating with matches, transforming ideas and inspirations gathered from travels and small details of daily life into works of art. In 2025 and 2026, he participated in the Artists' Showcase of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo, now presenting to the public a solo exhibition.
