As part of the celebrations for National Fisherman’s Day, the photographic exhibition “Arrifaina”, by João Bracourt, will be inaugurated at the Museum of Portimão on May 31, at 5:00 PM.
The exhibition consists of 11 photographs resulting from a unique record of sardine fishing aboard the trawler “Arrifana”. The project stems from an unexpected experience at sea when the camera became inoperable at the start of the operation, allowing only a brief initial recording of 17 minutes. This constraint gave rise to a creative process based on alternative means — action camera, mobile phone, and drone — resulting in a visual approach marked by spontaneity and closeness to reality.
The exhibition also includes objects related to fishing activities, such as nets, sonar, and other onboard instruments, reinforcing the connection between the memory of fishing, the men of the sea, and the maritime heritage of the region.
The exhibition will be open to the public until June 26 and can be visited at the Museum of Portimão on Tuesdays from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
