Colloquium "Quarter Millennium of the Festivities of the Foundation of Vila Real de Santo António"

As part of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the foundation of Vila Real de Santo António, the municipality promotes a colloquium dedicated to the history, identity, and heritage value of the city.

The initiative takes place on May 11 (Monday), 14 (Thursday), and 15 (Friday) at the António Aleixo Cultural Center, with free entry.

The colloquium begins on May 11 (Monday) at 9:15 PM with a conference by D. Manuel Clemente, Emeritus Patriarch, on the topic "The Marquis of Pombal and the Catholic Church," which introduces the historical and ideological framework of the Pombaline period.

The program gathers specialists, academics, and researchers, addressing topics such as the Pombaline period, the construction of the city, the first settlers, cross-border relations, and the cultural value of VRSA.

There will also be a round table with the mayors of VRSA and Oeiras, Álvaro Araújo and Isaltino Morais, focused on the enhancement of heritage and the future challenges of the territory.

The colloquium culminates with the signing of a cooperation memorandum between the municipalities of VRSA and Oeiras, reinforcing institutional coordination around the Pombaline legacy.
