The Lecture Series “Paths of Memory, Identity, and Power”, organized by ICIA Instituto de Cultura Ibero Americana, will begin on May 30 at the Portimão Municipal Library, starting at 6:00 PM.

The first lecture will be with Ana Maria de Azevedo.

The speaker was a teacher for about 50 years in Secondary Education, where she taught subjects such as History, History of Culture and Arts, among others, and in Higher Education, the History of Brazil at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon. She worked at the Camões Institute where she was Deputy Director of Revista Camões (2003), among other roles in cooperation with Brazil. She holds a degree in History and a Master's in History and Culture of Brazil from the same institution where she defended her master's thesis in 1995, “Father Fernão Cardim (1548-1625). Contribution to the study of his life and work.”

She has given lectures and presentations on topics related to the History of Brazil at Portuguese and foreign universities and cultural institutions.

She is the author of books and various articles published in books and specialized journals, in research areas, especially the Portuguese presence, the action of the Society of Jesus in Brazil, and the meeting of peoples and cultures in the 16th and 17th centuries, notably the edition of the work of Fernão Cardim, Tratados da Terra e Gente do Brasil, in 1997, by CNCDP, in Portugal and in Brazil, in 2009 and 2020. In 2025, as part of the IV Centenary of the death of Father Fernão Cardim, she published her Biography in Lisbon, titled Fernão Cardim. A Jesuit from Alentejo to Brazil, passing through Rome and London and in São Paulo, Father Fernão Cardim. The man, the life, the work.
