Open Class: Archives – proof and creativity – the sound memory
The International Council on Archives (ICA) emphasizes that archives encompass all types of records, regardless of the medium, and their preservation is essential to ensure memory, proof, and access. Among the main formats are textual, digital, photographic, and audiovisual documents — each requiring specific methods of preservation, description, and access to ensure their continuity and utility over time.
Since it became possible to fix sound documents, there has been a concern for their preservation and authenticity. This presentation will address significant moments in this nearly 150-year history, highlighting the importance and diversity of these documents, as well as some essential care for their preservation.
Together, cooperating, we all have a role to play in safeguarding sound heritage.
