Throughout this month of May, the Portimão Museum celebrates its 18th anniversary, also marking over one million visitors since opening to the public — a total of 1,387,210 entries reflecting the role of this space in preserving memory, identity, and local heritage.
The celebrations will take place from May 16 to 18, with a diverse program of cultural initiatives that includes the 26th Portimão Photographic Race, the 1st Meeting “Drawing Portimão,” the celebration of the European Night of Museums, and the inauguration of the exhibition “A Resistant Poetics,” held in partnership with the Museum of Neo-Realism.
On the night of May 16, between 9 PM and 11 PM, the Museum opens its doors for a special night visit, providing a new perspective on the industrial and historical heritage of the municipality, in an experience designed for all audiences.
On May 17, the highlight will be the inauguration of the exhibition “A Resistant Poetics,” which gathers about 60 works of painting, drawing, engraving, and photography from the collection of the Museum of Neo-Realism.
The program also includes already emblematic moments of these celebrations, such as the traditional “Happy Birthday Song,” the performance of IsmaTuna, and the cutting of the original birthday cake related to the Museum, in a sharing and celebration atmosphere with the community.
